Rough installed prices from published national cost guides: chain link about $10 to $40 a linear foot, wood privacy about $15 to $45, vinyl about $15 to $60, aluminum about $25 to $75, and farm fencing from about $1 a foot for barbed wire. Height, gates, removal of an old fence and the ground all move the price. Full cost guide with sources.
Salt air, strong wind and termites are hard on fences here. Read the coastal materials guide.
| Material | Salt air | Wind | Termites | Upkeep |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wood privacy (treated pine, cedar) | Fine with galvanized or stainless fasteners | Solid panels catch wind; steel posts help | At risk; use ground-contact posts or steel | Seal or stain every few years |
| Vinyl (PVC) | Does not corrode | Needs reinforced rails and good post depth | Not affected | Wash occasionally |
| Chain link | Heavier galvanizing or vinyl coat lasts longer | Wind passes through (unless slatted) | Not affected | Low |
| Aluminum | Does not rust; the usual pick by the water | Open design lets wind through | Not affected | Low |
| Ornamental steel or iron | Rusts where the coating chips | Strong, open design | Not affected | Touch up coating |
We pass requests to fence contractors that work across Corpus Christi, from Calallen and Annaville to the Southside, Flour Bluff and Padre Island, and in nearby towns such as Portland, Robstown, Kingsville and Aransas Pass. Coverage of outlying towns and acreage depends on the contractor and the job. Areas covered.
Homeowners replacing or adding a fence, HOAs and property managers with common areas or many units, landlords, ranch and acreage owners, and small businesses that need a secure yard, lot or enclosure.
It depends mostly on the material, the height and the length. Published national cost guides put installed prices at roughly $10 to $40 a linear foot for chain link, $15 to $45 for a wood privacy fence, $15 to $60 for vinyl and $25 to $75 for ornamental aluminum. At those rates, 150 to 200 feet of wood privacy fence works out to roughly $2,300 to $9,000. See the fence cost guide for every material and the sources.

Salt air corrodes plain steel and cheap fasteners quickly. Close to the bay or the Gulf, aluminum, vinyl and properly coated steel last best, with stainless or hot-dip galvanized hardware. Wood works if posts are rated for ground contact and the fence is sealed and maintained. See the coastal materials guide.
It depends on where the fence goes, how tall it is, and whether it is part of a pool barrier. Check with the City of Corpus Christi Development Services before you build, and with your own city if you live in Portland (which says fences need a permit), Robstown, Kingsville or another town. On corner lots, keep the visibility triangle clear. Many contractors handle any permit for you; ask. See permits and HOA rules.
Usually. Texas law says an HOA cannot ban a perimeter fence outright, but it can regulate the type of fence, and many Corpus Christi subdivisions set the material, height, color and which side faces out. Check your HOA rules and get written approval before you sign a contract or order materials.
